Job Summary

T hi s position directly assists the Vice President for Research (VPR) in researching, organizing, preparing, and overseeing activities in support of the Office's mission. The position supports the Associate VPR - Coast Operations as directed by the VPR and serves as a liaison of the University of Southern Mississippi Research Foundation on the Hattiesburg campus. Major responsibilities include: 1) gathers, researches, and/or analyzes information affecting operations and initiatives of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR); 2) coordinates and/or assists with the development and coordination of special projects on behalf of the VPR and Associate VPR - Coast Operations; 3) prepares reports and other verbal and written communications on behalf of the VPR and Associate VPR - Coast Operations; 4) represents the OVPR with internal and external customers; 5) provides support to the operations of the USM Research Foundation; 6) performs other essential duties as requested by the VPR.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

+ Supports the daily operations and initiatives of the Office of the Vice President for Research and the numerous offices that report to the VPR and the operations of the USM Research Foundation.

+ Prepares reports and other verbal and written communications on behalf of the Vice President for Research and the Associate VPR for Coastal Operations.

+ Represents the Office of the Vice President for Research with internal and external customers.

+ Plans and coordinates meetings about operations and initiatives of the Office of the Vice President for Research for various stakeholder groups.

+ Meets with faculty to discuss needs associated with their research and communicates those needs to the Vice President for Research; and performs other duties as assigned.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Administration, Business or other appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university -OR- four to ten years of experience in administrative college or university office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Administration, Business or other appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university -OR- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Administration, Business or other appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university -AND- four to ten years of experience in administrative college or university office setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

+ Adept in Microsoft Office

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals

+ Excellent organization and time management skills

+ Ability to plan, organize and prioritize complex and technical work processes to meet schedules and timelines.

+ Detail-oriented

+ Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines

+ Ability to test and apply new organizational systems for handling legacy processes

+ Ability to apply new information technology-based application and plugins for work efficiency.

+ Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines

+ Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence related to governmental and research resource narratives

+ Must demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and discretion when dealing with confidential matters.

+ Skill in managing one's own time and the time of others

+ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, salaries, and proportions and develop financial plans and manage resources

+ Ability to solve practical problems

+ Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

+ Ability to travel to all USM campuses
