Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Patient Care Manager is accountable
and responsible 24 hours a day for directing, organizing, managing
and guiding activities of the unit including, but not limited to,
the staff, environment, and patients. Responsible for coordinating
nursing efforts to ensure that effective patient care is being
provided, and quality standards are met. She/he is directly
accountable and responsible to the Director of Critical Care
Nursing. Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach
that produces meaningful contributions to Vision Alignment Matrix.
Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization's
established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates
knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses
the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and
interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each
patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and
to provide the care needed.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
--- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates
knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses
the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and
interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each
patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and
to provide the care needed.

--- Preforms unit and patient rounds on a continuous basis.
--- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate changes in
policy and procedures and other appropriate communication to
staff.
--- Demonstrates ability to participate in department planning,
decision-making and policy formation.
--- Demonstrates ability to hold staff accountable to organization
mission and vision.
--- Demonstrates the ability to assist in the coordination of
services with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other
departments as well as other providers. Responds rapidly and
effective during emergency situations.
--- Maintains own clinical skills staying current in skills,
ongoing competencies, equipment, and certifications required in
specific nursing area, including EKG rhythm identification,
National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification,
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advance Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS) Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and
moderate sedation.
--- Demonstrates ability to perform all technical skills required
for the unit's population by rendering professional nursing care
including administering medications, starting IVs, insertion and
maintenance of foleys, venipuncture, blood products administration,
restraint application, sterile dressing, maintenance of all lines,
(i.e. intracranial, central, arterial, peripheal) and ventilated
patients, and tracheostomies.
--- Demonstrate the technical aptitude for working and
troubleshooting equipment used including but not limited to
traction, wound vacuum systems, monitoring devices, unit dialysis
equipment.
--- Implements a systematic and comprehensive plan of care to
provide individualized care and educates patient and family about
diagnosis, treatments, or prescribed medical regimen and
medications in accordance with patient and family readiness and
ability to learn.
--- Demonstrates critical thinking skills and uses professional
judgment to respond promptly with intervention when clinical
changes occur, and prevention of complications in patients in need
of cardiac monitoring, stroke care, medical-surgical and trauma
care.
--- Communicates effectively with others in an appropriate and
timely manner. Adheres to and promotes the established values of
the organization, i.e. customer service, safety, infection,
control, and compliance standards.
--- Consistently follows patient care and FGH policy, procedures,
and standards of care in performing nursing duties.
--- Demonstrates financial liability with effective use of supplies
and staff.
--- Ensures infection control procedures and quality measures are
followed.
EDUCATION: Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program with a BS
degree in nursing or a written plan to complete a BS degree in
nursing within 24 months is required. Will receive 8 hours of
stroke education during orientation and 4 hours of stroke education
annually which may include the NIHSS certification.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Two to five years experience in nursing required.
Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership behaviors
is preferred. Required to be able to clinically participate in all
components of the nursing process.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Licensed to practice as a nurse in
Mississippi. ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification required within 6
months.
