Position Details Location Hattiesburg 118 College Drive Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 39406-0001 United States Division College of Arts and Sciences Position Type Staff Employment Status Full Time Grant Funded No Posting Close Date Open untill filled Job Summary The College of Arts and Sciences welcomes qualified applicants for the position of Auditorium/Facilities Manager for the College of Arts and Sciences. This individual will manage auditorium facilities in the College and ensure that all personnel and guests have the most suitable working environment for their activities; improve efficiency by strategic planning and reducing operating costs while increasing productivity; and implement a preventative and/or pro-active management approach for all scenarios/aspects of this job, including preventative measures for potential problems. Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1) Customer Service a) Works with staff to schedule rehearsals, performances, technical load-ins and load outs, and scheduled maintenance for Bennett Auditorium and the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. b) Provides customers (internal and external) with trained personnel and schedules them to assist with opening/closing the facility, lights, sound, fly systems and other equipment, etc. This may be in the form of external approved vendors or student managerial staff on a case-by-case basis and as per contracts. c) Coordinates with PR/Marketing and Event Coordinator, property departments, and customers to ensure consistent, high-level service throughout the pre-event, event, and post-event phases of university events. Ensures a seamless turnover from the booking of the event to final accounting requirements. d) Solves problems/offers alternatives and Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels. e) Sets a positive example for staff and guests f) Works with the Office of Student Affairs and Office of Leadership and Student Involvement to coordinate university events. g) When necessary, consults with the appropriate on-campus administrators regarding the engagement of any necessary independent contractors. 2) Cost Management a) Coordinates to maximize revenue opportunities by identifying external rental opportunities and and offers enhancements to create outstanding events. b) Calculates and compares costs for required goods/services to achieve maximum value for money. c) Plans for future development in line with and College of Arts and Sciences goals. d) Plans budgets, including cost estimates for facility needs, modifications, and/or improvements. e) Works with the Dean's Office to manage revenue and profitability associated with events. 3) Processes a) Facilitates scheduling of event workers, usher staff, and other personnel (as needed) for Bennett Auditorium and the Mannoni Performing Arts Center, including space rental contracts, calendars, and related correspondence and documents. b) Manages technical considerations including lighting, sound enhancement for Bennett Auditorium and the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. c) Facilitates live streaming, recording, and archiving of SoM events in Bennett Auditorium and the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. d) Supervises and trains student workers. e) Is on site and oversees all events in Bennett Auditorium and the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. f) Participates in planning for the best allocation and utilization of space and resources for buildings. g) Manages load-in and load-out schedules. h) Oversees and manages parking needs for events with Parking Management and event participants. i) Regularly updates auditoria policies and procedures. 4) Maintenance a) Oversees maintenance, repair, and inventory of equipment. b) Creates and tracks work orders associated with the facilities, including waste disposal, recycling, and the surrounding grounds area. c) Manages utilities and communications. 5) Safety a) Maintains responsibility for security of Bennett Auditorium and the Mannoni Performing Arts Center. b) Ensures health and safety standards for all facility users. c) Ensures that the buildings meet health and safety requirements and that facilities comply with legislation. d) Responds appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise, including managing any consequences. 6) Supervision of workers a) Coordinates work of staff, student workers, contractors, sub-contractors. b) Supervises and trains student workers. c) Checks that agreed work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and provides follow-up on any deficiencies. d) Conducts pre- and post-event meetings as required to review/communicate group needs and feedback. 7) Other a) Participates with public site inspections and assists with the sales process when necessary. b) Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 1) Experience in public event management and patron relations 2) Experience with sound and lighting equipment 3) Enhanced computer and technical skills relevant to theatrical trades 4) Familiarity with telecommunications equipment 5) Excellent communication skills 6) Excellent management skills 7) Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with colleagues, clients, and the general public Preferred Qualifications 1) Experience in a technical theatre environment 2) Experience with high-end theatrical sound and lighting equipment About The University of Southern Mississippi The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is a comprehensive public research institution delivering transformative programs on campuses in Hattiesburg and Long Beach, at teaching and research sites in central and southern Mississippi, as well as online.
