The Associate Dean for Research within the College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) will p rovide college-level leadership, management, and oversight of all research (faculty and student) and grant activities, particularly for scholarly innovation, capacity building, and support. Oversees and supports grant pre- and post-award submissions, as well as research that does not require grant funding. Displays a strong commitment to high ethical standards, while also focusing on expanding the research and grant profile of the CNHP.
Pr imary Duties and Responsibilities
Report to the Dean of the CNHP and collaborate with the Dean, faculty, and staff to accomplish action initiatives for strategic progress. Adheres to USM and CNHP policies, procedures, and regulations and represents the CNHP in the absence of the Dean. A review of this description has excluded themarginal functions of this job which are incidental to the performance offundamental job duties.   • Coordinates and enhances CNHP research initiatives. Directs existing initiatives and develops a strategic plan for expansion and visibility of the CNHP's research and grant profile.
  • Promotes and develops scholarly innovation and capacity. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, professional development, mentoring, programming, and interdisciplinary team building.
  • Oversee pre- and post-grant awards, partnerships, and contracts. Identify internal and external grant opportunities as well as other funding sources that are appropriate for CNHP faculty, staff, and students. Connect faculty and students to the appropriate funding source. Serves as a liaison with the Office of Research Administration.
  • Highlights and promotes research and grant awards in the CNHP to both internal and external stakeholders. Serves as a liaison with the Office of the Vice President for Research, Drapeau Center for Undergraduate Research, and the Graduate School.
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities
    Carries out supervisory responsibilities inaccordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilitiesmay include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning,and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipliningemployees; addressing complaints, resolving problems, and mediating conflict. Minimum Qualifications -- This position requires a doctoral degree in ahealth professions-related field (e.g., athletic training, audiology, kinesiotherapy,public health, speech pathology, therapeutic recreation, and nursing),appropriate licensure or certifications, and experience in education. Candidatesshould meet respective disciplinary requirements for associate or fullprofessor. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Utilizes personal computer, computer software (PeopleSoft,Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point) typewriter, photocopy machine, faxmachine, and telephone.
    • Also uses standard office equipment such as stapler,staple remover, and scissors.
    • Basic knowledge and skill of maneuvering withinWindows-based software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
    • Basicknowledge and skill of using email to send and receivecorrespondence.
    • Proficiency in using search engines and web-basedapplications for research.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, MicrosoftExcel, and Microsoft Access for reports and documents.
    • Knowledge and skill inincorporating software tools and equipment into office procedures.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,operating and maintenance instructions, and proceduremanuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports andcorrespondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups ofcustomers or employees of organizations.--
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units ofmeasure, using whole numbers, common fractions, anddecimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw andinterpret bar graphs.--
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a varietyof concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationexists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished inwritten, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants withdoctoral degrees in athletic training, audiology, kinesiotherapy, public health,speech pathology, and/or therapeutic recreation. Additional preferredqualifications include:
