Hematology/Oncology RN Med Surg 2 years recent exp required Unit
Overview: Hematology/Oncology RN – Med Surg (5 South) Start Date:
TBD Location: University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)
Radius Rule: 50-mile radius rule in effect – Driver's License
required upon submittal Fingerprinting: - Remote option: Requires a
minimum of 10 days processing - In-person option: Available at
Jackson or Grenada campuses the week prior to start Vaccination &
Health Requirements - Flu Vaccine: Required – Only documented
medical exemptions accepted (must provide evidence of severe prior
reaction from a healthcare provider) - COVID-19 Vaccine: (Not
specified – confirm current policy) Required Experience &
Certifications - Epic Charting: Required - BLS: Required - ACLS:
Required only for charge nurses - Oncology Certification: Not
required – Hem/Onc and Chemo experience preferred - Level 1 Trauma
Experience: Required - Large Facility/High Acuity Experience:
Preferred - Must Be Comfortable With: Lines, chest tubes, hem/onc
patients - Chemo Administration: Training available; manager will
train on-site Unit Specifics - Unit Name: 5 South –
Hematology/Oncology - Number of Beds: 32 - Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
Typically 1:5, may increase to 1:6. Acuity-based adjustment
possible - Common Diagnoses: Hematology/Oncology, chemotherapy
treatment - Drips: - Titrated: Heparin - Set Rate: Possible
amiodarone (if ordered), but patient is transferred to cardiac unit
after initiation - Tele/Monitoring: - All units are tele-capable -
Central monitoring station communicates with RNs - RNs do not read
their own strips - Brand: (Not specified – recommend verifying)
Support & Staffing - Charge Nurse: Yes – light assignment
typically, may take full load if needed - House Supervisor:
In-house from 3 PM weekdays and full coverage on weekends - Nurse
Educator/Manager: Each unit has an educator and a manager (some may
be shared across smaller units) - Nurse Aides: Available on all
units - Respiratory Therapy Support: Yes – CPAP, BiPAP support
primarily at night; high-flow O2 on 2N Scheduling & Shifts - Shift
Length: 12 hours – 7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM - Self-Scheduling: Not
guaranteed; travelers fill schedule gaps, but managers will
accommodate block scheduling when possible - Weekend Requirement:
Every other weekend or 2 weekends/month standard; may increase per
unit needs - Holiday Requirement: Must rotate with core staff -
Call/Standby: None - Floating: Yes, within skillset – to all Med
Surg units; higher acuity assignments reserved for core staff Dress
