Job Description:
Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for
the implementation of the physician's order for Occupational
Therapy services. The Occupational Therapist should provide all
necessary aspects of Occupational Therapy within an
interdisciplinary environment in order to facilitate the return of
the patient to as independent and as safe of a lifestyle as
possible. The Occupational Therapist must utilize growth and
development knowledge based on the care of children (pediatric),
adolescents, adults, and adult geriatric patients. The OT
demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
appropriate to the age of the patients served and also demonstrates
knowledge of the principles of growth and development. The OT
possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's
status and interprets the appropriate information needed to
identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her
age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Performance
Expectations: - Able to perform patient evaluations with the use of
appropriate functional tests/measures and demonstrate the ability
to assimilate objective measures along with social factors, medical
stability, activity restrictions, participation limitations or
other relative comorbidities to determine functional deficits and
construct short-term goals, long-term goals and patient/family
goals with an appropriate frequency and duration to establish the
therapy diagnosis and appropriate plan of care - Demonstrates the
ability to tolerate the physically demanding tasks of moving
equipment and patients, utilizing safety measures for self and
patients per the physical and environmental demands specified below
- Demonstrates proper, secure documentation in the Electronic
Medical Record - Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking
with patient evaluation and treatment planning - Demonstrates
understanding of moist heat, paraffin, and other physical agent
modalities commonly used as they apply to each area of practice -
Demonstrates an understanding of the cardiopulmonary,
musculoskeletal, nervous, and integumentary systems, utilizing
age-specific patient care indicators as it relates to each
structure and system in the provision of care - Appropriately
identifies the learning needs of patients or family members - Works
as a team member to assist patient/family at all points of entry
into the acute therapy care system and along the continuum of care
as appropriate - This job description is not intended to be
all-inclusive; the employee will also perform other job duties as
assigned. Qualifications: Education/Skills The incumbent shall, at
a minimum, be a graduate of a four-year bachelor’s degree or
approved Master’s Degree Occupational Therapy Program. Acute Care
Therapists and Therapy Assistants will Have 2 hours of stroke
education annually. Work Experience: May be a recent graduate.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE - Permanent or temporary
license as an Occupational Therapist from the Mississippi State
Department of Health. Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained
based on required timeframe below - Basic Life Support Within 30
Days of Employment Required Mental Demands: Must interpret and
follow physician's orders, cooperate with co-workers and
leadership, be Responsive to patient needs and requests, and
demonstrates initiative towards completion of Treatment goals.
