Job Description The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center is seeking a full time Gastroenterologist. The major duties of a Physician - Inpatient Psychiatrist include but are not limited to: - Psychiatrist will focus on the assessment/evaluation and medication management of veterans who suffer from a variety of mental health conditions, including, but not limited to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, substance abuse, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and other related conditions. - Writes prescriptions for medications, including controlled medications which require a DEA number. - Initiates consultation by and referral to other services as indicated. - Educates staff hospital wide about psychiatric needs of patients; how to handle; what to expect; etc. - Works with families of patients receiving psychiatric care. - Experienced in performing evaluation and providing treatment to clients in inpatient and outpatient settings - Experienced in working closely with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to provide state-of-the-art mental health care including medication management, treatment planning and other specialized services as needed - Participates in after hours call schedule as needed
