Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to residents of all ages in a long-term care setting, under the guidance of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates a solid understanding of nursing principles relevant to the clinical environment and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise. This role involves utilizing appropriate standards tailored to the physical and psychosocial needs of residents as outlined in their care plans. The LPN is skilled in conducting assessments, administering medications or treatments as prescribed, and providing technical support to healthcare professionals. Documentation of resident interactions and outcomes related to care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary needs is essential. Building and maintaining effective relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the community is crucial. The LPN must communicate clearly while ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information. Under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, the LPN also provides counseling to residents and their families regarding prevention and treatment plans, and develops self-care programs based on resident education principles. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, and flexibility to assist at sister facilities is required. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse is required; an associate degree in practical nursing is preferred. If the position necessitates IV therapy/management skills, candidates must have graduated from a Board-approved AASPN program that includes IV therapy in the curriculum or completed an IV Therapy course sanctioned by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Completion of a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan is necessary, or a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility. Specific roles may have additional educational or training requirements. Must possess an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the State Nursing Board and/or have multi-state licensure privileges. Ongoing maintenance of required competencies and certifications is essential, along with completion of annual continuing education units (CEUs) and competency training as mandated by the department and facility.
