The Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Strategic Initiatives is responsible to the President for providing collaborative, strategic, and result-oriented leadership for institution-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.. Primary Duties and Responsibilities. Plans, develops, and coordinates diversity-oriented programs and initiatives, including the development and implementation of a strategic diversity plan that aligns with the University’s strategic plan for Hattiesburg, Gulf Park, and all other sites.Works collaboratively and effectively with the offices of the Provost, University Vice Presidents, Deans, Human Resources, General Counsel, and Athletics, and serves as an active team member on University committees to help advance the University’s mission and goals related to education and employment equity and accessibility.Works closely with HR to enhance Affirmative Action and EEO compliance. Works with university compliance officer on the design and implementation of diversity programs ensuring hiring practices and policies align with institutional goals.Plans, guides, and advises the President and the executive leadership team on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Responsible for developing and presenting to the executive leadership team for consideration innovative approaches for achieving greater institutional diversity.Assists with the creation of training programs for units that will help contribute to the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented faculty, staff, and students. Assists with the development of curricular and co-curricular initiatives to address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.Develops, implements, maintains, and annually assesses the University’s diversity efforts using metrics and procedures that track trends at the unit and institutional level. Represents the University at all IHL and state-wide efforts to address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.Effectively manages and advocates for resources to advance new and ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in an efficient, cost-effective, and high impact manner.Cultivates relationships with various community, civic, and professional organizations to foster collaboration that advances diversity initiatives between the University and local communities.Collaborates with the USM Foundation to identify external fundraising opportunities that support ongoing diversity-related training and programming. Earned terminal degree with 10-15 years progressively. responsible experience in higher education or related industry.. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities. Experience with strategic planning;. Demonstrated and successful experience working collaboratively across multiple units with diverse interests;. An open and transparent leadership style;. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;. Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data;. Respect for and an understanding of shared governance;. Ability to successfully manage multiple ongoing tasks, and. Broad knowledge of issues of access, inclusion, diversity, equity, and multiculturalism in a university setting.. Preferred Qualifications.
