Location: Candidates may reside in Alabama, Mississippi or Tennessee but must be able to report into our primary offices with those states.

Every team member of the C Spire Crew is charged with bringing our strategic vision of personalized wireless to life. Work in the IT Infrastructure department to administer and maintain highly specialized solutions for C Spire's internal public and private clouds, and our commercial data center and cloud services, with a focus on Linux and other Open Source Based Technologies.

NOTE: This position may be filled as a Level I, II, III or IV Systems Admin, Linux depending on experience.

Participate in the design and implementation C Spire Business cloud, data center, and related infrastructure, including internal enterprise systems Maintain an awareness of all products, technologies, tools, methodologies, and services used within the department Possess knowledge of and/or demonstrate ability to learn the Company business processes and Information Technology tools, products and environments. Perform operational support for covered technologies, including on-call support Anticipate and identify potential problems before they occur and implements solutions Acquire and maintain working knowledge of business processes and procedures Interface with other teams, vendors, and business units as part of the service and support process Perform systems installation, administration, operations, maintenance, support, testing, upgrades, performance monitoring, business continuance, and documentation Ensure adherence to security goals, formal processes, standards and total quality practices in all activities Implement standards and specifications used to deliver C Spire services both internally and to customers Successfully complete other assignments as requested by management

In addition, for the System Administrator Linux III / IV positions:

Lead projects for improving Core Infrastructure and Engineering areas, implementing new capabilities, and/or remediating problem areas. Assist other engineers and administrators with engineering and troubleshooting tasks which are difficult or time-sensitive in nature. Assist other teams with projects as a direct participant as well as lending input for your area of expertise when called upon. Serve as a technical mentor for other team members.

Qualifications

System Administrator I Linux - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience administering Linux Systems and Backup Technologies at an enterprise scale including technologies such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, AIX, VMware vSphere, Dell EMC Data Domain, Rubrik, Netbackup, Avamar, VEEAM, Netapp Storage, Dell EMC ECS, Pure Storage, Brocade SAN, Cisco UCS, and IBM Power Systems
  • Basic networking knowledge and experience
  • Basic knowledge of backup and disaster recovery
  • Ability to write and debug basic scripts and playbooks in BASH, Ansible, or similar configuration and scripting languages
  • Basic Software Deployment & Patching experience with tools such as Red Hat Satellite, Spacewalk, or Foreman
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of monitoring tools such as Nagios, SolarWinds, LogicMonitor, Prometheus, Netdata, Grafana
  • Basic knowledge of DevOps tools such as Powershell, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, GitLab, Jenkins, or similar technologies
  • Basic OS Security knowledge including SELinux, Server antivirus, and OS Hardening techniques
  • Basic knowledge of storage systems leveraging NFS, CIFS, S3, and S3A storage protocols
  • Basic knowledge of container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher, Openshift, or similar products
  • Background must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively within a complex, dynamic environment
  • Certifications in one or more of the above technologies

Systems Adminstrator II: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience administering Linux and Unix Systems, Virtualization, and Backup Technologies at an enterprise scale including technologies such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, AIX, VMware vSphere, Dell EMC Data Domain, Rubrik, Netbackup, Avamar, VEEAM, Netapp Storage, S3 Object Storage, Pure Storage, Brocade SAN, Cisco UCS, and IBM Power Systems
  • Intermediate networking knowledge and experience including technologies such as virtual and physical switches, and network load balancers
  • Intermediate backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability experience
  • Ability to write and debug intermediate level scripts and playbooks in BASH, Ansible, PYTHON, Teraform, or similar configuration and scripting languages
  • Intermediate Software Deployment & Patching experience with tools such as Red Hat Satellite, Spacewalk, or Foreman
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate experience of monitoring tools such as Nagios, SolarWinds, LogicMonitor, Prometheus, Netdata, Grafana, Splunk
  • Basic knowledge of DevOps tools such as Powershell, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, GitLab, Jenkins, or similar technologies
  • Basic experience with software web systems such as Gunicorn, Apache HTTP, nginx, or haproxy

  • Expert networking knowledge and experience including technologies such as virtual and physical switches, and network load balancers
  • Expert backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to sit for long periods and use computer keyboard and/or mouse while viewing computer screen. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule shared by other department members.
