Job Requisition ID: R00049542 Job Category: Professional and Technical Organization: MED-COM Location/s: Main Campus Jackson Job Title: Emergency Services Coordinator - Mississippi Med-Com - Full-Time/ Part-Time Job Summary: The Emergency Services Coordinator is responsible for the efficient coordination of patient flow, including interfacility transfers, admissions, and consultations for Emergency Department patients. This role encompasses the initiation and management of both air and ground medical transport, as well as the reception and processing of EMS transmissions. The coordinator plays a critical role in facilitating pre-hospital communication and resource deployment during crises or disaster scenarios. Additionally, the position ensures the provision of timely, high-quality emergency and critical care for patients transported to UMMC or other designated facilities. Education & Experience Education and Experience Required: High school Diploma/GED and (1) year of Emergency Medical Dispatching or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), Nationally Registered Paramedic (EMT-Paramedic), or Emergency Medical Dispatcher – IAED – International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch. EMT, AEMT, or EMT-Paramedic required from the Mississippi State Department of Health required post-hire within 30 days. Responsibilities: Utilizes MedCom communication and documentation systems and protocols to receive, document, and manage radio transmissions, telephone calls, and other electronic communications related to emergency patient transfers, consultation requests, and assistance from pre-hospital providers and law enforcement agencies. Ensures the accurate and timely relay of verbal and written messages, particularly in relation to emergent transfer requests, patient reports, and medical control communications. Participates in educational and outreach activities and coordinates emergency preparedness efforts for internal and external customers with local, state, regional and federal partners. Assists with communication responsibility in accordance with the state of Mississippi comprehensive emergency management plan. Evaluates, plans, provides, and documents care for patients in the disaster, transport in or out of hospital environment. Performs daily operational duties of the disaster management plan as assigned, including but not limited to radio checks and management of incoming alerts. Assists with dissemination of disaster preparedness information and management as directed by the UMMC Mississippi Center of Emergency Services leadership. Participates in disaster drills and exercises utilizing computer-based systems, weather systems and communication systems. Follows specialty service and clinical department protocols in referring patients to UMMC. Maintains and verifies the quality and accuracy of all communications center related transport documentation. Receives, coordinates, and relays requests for medical transport by the comprehensive transport program. Performs continuous vehicle or aircraft following (computerized and/or manual mapping skills) and initiates emergency action plans in case of an incident/accident.
